CHRISTMAS HOOD by Emily, Phil and Tony Boardman Chapter 5: Excuses, Excuses The next day Alan was in one of the guest bedrooms at Creighton-Ward Mansion, talking to his telecom watch, “OK John, keep in touch and let us know as soon as there are any more coded transmissions. F.A.B.” he said to finish the conversation. There was a knock at the door and Virgil came in. “Hi Virgil, I just heard from John. Apparently there was another transmission just before we left Tracy Island. It was a short one so John couldn’t trace the other end of the communication again but one end is still in London.” “Good news Alan. It would have been terrible if we had come all this way only to find that the source of the transmission had moved.” Virgil replied. “Now I think we need to make our excuses to Lady Penelope and Parker and wait for the next transmissions. Then John can guide us in to the target.” “More Bacon, Eggs, Toast, Sirs?” mumbled Parker. “Oh do, eat up more, won’t you boys?” added Lady Penelope Creighton-Ward. “I couldn’t eat another thing Penelope,” answered Alan. “Yes, Thank you Penelope. Thank you Parker” added Virgil “but we really must get on. We have to get to those shops. We have so little time and so much to buy.” “Well I need to go shopping also, won’t you let Parker and I give you a lift in the Rolls?” offered Lady Penelope, kindly. “Oh, we want our presents for you to be a surprise” answered Alan quickly “we had better go alone” he gave a look to Virgil. “That’s right,” added Virgil “you’ve already done enough for us. We’ll be fine on our own.” “Parker, won’t you arrange a car for Virgil and Alan to use and prepare the Rolls for my shopping trip?” Lady Penelope asked. “Yus Milady!” grunted the butler. Later, Virgil and Alan were driving into central London, pleased with themselves that they had managed to convince Lady Penelope that they were just going shopping. Alan’s wristwatch on beeped and John’s face appeared on the watch face. “There has just been another transmission, I have traced the location to just in front of the Tower of London” John reported. “F.A.B. John! We’re on our way” replied Alan. On to Chapter 6: The Chase. | |||||
