Chapter 3: More Code

Later that afternoon John got a message from Tracy Island, “Hi John,” said Scott “just to let you know that Father has gone for a swim and left me in charge for a little while”
“F.A.B. Scott” answered John “is Dad OK down there? He seemed to be in a bad mood earlier.”
“He doesn’t seem himself,” Scott replied “he bawled at me earlier when I questioned him about that unbreakable code.”
“Did that worry you too?” asked John
“Yeah, but he didn’t seem to want us to investigate it any further.” Scott said.
“I feel really worried about that message,” continued John “I feel sure that someone is up to no good. Maybe even the Hood!”
“Yeah, I know what you mean John but without Father’s support I don’t think there is anything we can do.” Scott replied.
Suddenly the beeping and flashing of the control panel in Thunderbird 5 interrupted the conversation. John knew what was going to happen but he pushed the ‘Decipher’ button quickly anyway, again no change. “This is really confusing Scott!” shouted John.
“Scan for the locations John!” called Scott
“F.A.B. Scott. It’s London again … and the other end of the communication is …” John’s voice tailed of as he concentrated on operating the machinery “Darn! … they’ve stopped communicating just before I could pinpoint the signal source. It was somewhere in the Pacific though!”
“The Pacific? I don’t like this at all John I think we are going to have to investigate this further.” said Scott commandingly.
“I’m not so sure that Father would agree Scott” John answered quickly “He seemed pretty sure earlier that this wasn’t of our concern”
Scott wasn’t so sure now, “Yeah, but this seems pretty close to home now that we know that one end of this transmission is communicating from the Pacific.” he thought aloud. “This could be some sort of attack on International Rescue itself,” he continued “we should really investigate it further”
“Yes Scott, but perhaps we should check this with Father first.” John advised his older brother
“Hmmm” replied Scott “you’re right. I don’t feel confident that Father would want to investigate this. Perhaps I’ll discuss this with Virgil, Alan and Gordon”
“Would you talk to Brains about this code not being breakable also?” reminded John.
      “F.A.B. John” closed Scott.
